As I have announced on several email lists, after nearly 38 years as a professional freelance indexer, I am retiring from this business today, August 31, 2008.
I will be focusing on several other areas: writing, which I've also been doing for many years resulting in multiple articles plus two books; programming, another area of interest (I published one successful indexing utility and have multiple users of that program) and will be working on some new software, but not in the indexing field; and genealogical research.
Because I will no longer be monitoring the Web for items of interest to indexers, I will cease posting to this blog.
I never really got a great deal of interest in the content and hardly any comments at all so I can't imagine it will be greatly missed.
I did get three financial contributions from readers in the early days of the blog, one quite generous, for which I remain grateful.
During the time of this blog, I've found it an interesting endeavor and learning experience. I appreciate those people who have subscribed.

Charles, I've enjoyed your blog and will miss it. I'm a black belt lurker and rarely post to lists, but I savor their content and save the links. You've provided more of a service than I think you're aware of. I wish you an enjoyable and interesting retirement.

Charles, I am also a lurker, as I'm a student working very slowly on getting my indexing credentials, but I've always recognized what a wonderful service your blog is, and, paving my way to hell with good intentions, always intended to send you a note saying so. It's too bad that it seems as though we've taken for granted your hard work and useful gift. And I understand how frustrating it must be for you, apparently doing all this work in a vacuum, and for what ostensible purpose? I'm sure that Susan and I are not the only two who took what you gave and said "Wow! That's great--I'll save it for future reference" and then went about our business without even saying thank you. So, for the record, thank you very much! And good luck with your future endeavors.
